Depending on your individual pathology, it may be possible to do a standalone ALIF which avoids violating your back muscles and leads to a faster recovery. In unstable spines, or weak bones though posterior screws are added to increase strength and stability.

“Dr. Saville performed a decompression surgery between L4-5 on my 93 year old mother on the 19th of June. One week later she was up walking, sometimes without use of a walker. Dr. Saville decided to do an "old fashioned surgery" in order to minimize her time under anesthesia, as that can be very dangerous to people at her age.
